Stouffville, ON - (June 18, 2006) - Peter Gibbons driver of the Canadian Tire Chevrolet
qualified 5th for the running of the Clarington 200 this past Fathers Day weekend, and took
over the lead by lap 21. The Gibbons Motorsports Team performed a flawless pit stop the
following lap and had Gibbons back on the track ahead of all the cars who had made a pit
stop.
Gibbons was back out front on lap 28 and held onto the lead until a restart 5 laps
later, when the 02 of Kerry Micks, the eventual winner, passed Gibbons as the field was
coming up to speed.
Peter continued to hold onto the second spot, but got together with road racer Robin
Buck and the two went off course. Gibbons returned to the track in 10th position,
but with yet another full course caution and laps winding down he was unable to move up
any further than the 9th spot.
When asked about the incident between him and Buck, Peter replied "It was just a racing
deal, Robin had the faster car, but he had too much speed at the end of the straightaway,
and couldn't get slowed down."
"I have to say my crew had the best pit stop they have ever had. I know alot of other teams
were messing up in the pits, but today my guys we on the ball, and I thank them for that."
RACE SUMMARY : Mt. Albert driver Kerry Micks won the race followed by #23 Jeff Lapcevich,
and third place went to Barrie Speedway winner Scott Steckly, from Milverton, ON. Gibbons
remains the track record holder with his record from 2005.
