Monday, July 03, 2006-(Barrie, ON) – Canadian Tire/Monroe Brakes driver
Peter Gibbons qualified 5th for the Mopar Canada Day 300 at Barrie Speedway
but came home with a disappointing 18th place finish.
The day was short for Gibbons after being involved in a crash he was forced out
of the race on lap 151 when an oil line came off and flames damaged the engine
compartment on the #1 Monte Carlo.
“This was not the way we wanted to leave Barrie, all we can do now is fix the car
and get ready to head west,” commented Gibbons. The next stop for the
Canadian Tire Team is July 15 & 16 at the Sun Valley Motor Speedway in
Vernon, BC.
The Gibbons Motorsports Team welcomed back Dan Walker after having knee
surgery. Dan, former tire carrier has taken the job of spotter and had his job cut
out for him Sunday afternoon. “Dan did a great job today, it’s good to have him
back at the track.”
Race Notes: The victory went to J.R. Fitzpatrick, runner up was driver Ron
Beauchamp Jr. and Dave Whitlock finished 3rd.
