Stouffville, ON – (Monday, July 17, 2006) - Cascar Super Series driver Peter
Gibbons finished 2nd in his 100 lap qualifier Saturday night, behind winner Kerry
Micks. The qualifying heat set the field for the 300 lap main event Sunday
afternoon.
Gibbons started 4th in the Castrol 300 and was quick to move up to 3rd where he
stayed for the first part of the race, the team pitted on lap 41 to change a right
rear tire and adjust the chassis which proved to be a great move. The Canadian
Tire/Monroe Brakes driver returned to the race track and moved his way back up
through the field. On lap 91 the team made the decision to make their final pit
stop and followed the leaders down to pit road. The Canadian Tire pit crew once
again had a lightning fast stop and had Gibbons back on the track ahead of the
other teams who had pitted.
Gibbons worked his way back into the top 5 by halfway and at the completion of
the race found himself in the 6th spot.
“Our car was great in the first half of the race, track position was too valuable
later in the race and we couldn’t afford to pit and work our way through all that
lap traffic,” remarked Gibbons. “We are happy with our finish today; we have had
a rough start to our season. Now it’s off to Edmonton and back to road racing.”
Race Summary: Congratulations to first time winner Brad Graham, driver of the
Challenger/Logels Auto Parts Dodge, second place went to DJ Kennington of St.
Thomas, and third place was JR Fitzpatrick.
