Stouffville, ON – (Sunday, August 13, 2006) - Peter Gibbons wants to know
when his luck will change. This question comes after the Canadian Tire driver
qualified 11th and finished 9th for the second week in a row. This is one driver
who is not accustomed to poor finishes and the Chevy pilot is ready for his 2006
season to improve.
At the drop of the green flag Gibbons was confident that his Canadian
Tire/Monroe Brakes Monte Carlo was going to be set for a podium finish, this
was not the case.
Gibbons started from the 11th position and was in 7th when a caution came out on
lap 71. The lead lap cars pitted and pit road was overloaded with cars and not
enough space. This forced Gibbons to lose 2 spots and he returned to the track
in 9th after being pinned into his pit stall.
Once green flag racing resumed Gibbons moved his way with ease back up to
the 5th place, he was not 100 percent happy with his car’s handling and chose to
pit for a second time on lap 120, returning to the ½ mile oval in 11th. With laps
winding down he climbed up as far at 8th place when he experienced a problem
with the hydraulics in the braking system. Gibbons had to run the last fifty laps
without brakes and dropped back to 9th at the conclusion of the race.
“We are really trying to figure out this brake problem, we thought we had it fixed
before qualifying we changed the all the main components and things were
looking great until the last part of the race”. Said Gibbons. “This has been a
frustrating season for my team, we are used to performing well and so far ‘06 has
not been our year”.
The Gibbons Motorsports Team has a week off, before returning to Quebec for
their final road course visit on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as a support race for
the Champ Car Grand Prix of Montreal, August 25-27.
In 2006 Canadian Tire celebrates their 10 year partnership with two-time National
Champion Peter Gibbons and his Chevrolet Monte Carlo, who equipped with
more than 350 automotive parts and products from Canadian Tire have been
setting records at racetracks across the country.
