Stouffville, ON (May 27, 2007) - Peter Gibbons kicked off his 2007 racing
season in the first ever NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES race Saturday night
at the Cayuga Speedway, with the running of the Dodge Dealers 200.
Gibbons qualified 12th but decided to pull out of line in what was an impound race
to work on his Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft Chevrolet, giving up his starting
position and moving to the rear of the field.
The green flag flew and after months of hard work to change the cars to meet the
new specifications, the Gibbons Motorsports driver got to work moving
through the field of cars and settled into the 12th position. Ironically this is where
Gibbons was originally to have started and it seemed like this was as good as his
car was capable of running. He radioed to his crew that the car was not handling
to his liking and at the first available caution he wanted them to make serious
adjustments to the Chevy.
He pulled the #1 car down pit road on lap 43 and crew chief Dave Hernen
instructed his crew to make the much needed changes. Gibbons returned to the
track and was still not pleased with the car. Not one to settle for a top ten finish,
Gibbons notified the crew that he still needed more adjustments made and pitted
for a second time on lap 67. The third and final pit stop on lap 94 seemed to
make the difference. The Gibbons Motorsports team watched as Gibbons made
his charge to the front and ran in the second spot until a late race restart shuffled
him back to third where he wound up at the conclusion of the race.
“We are glad to be running back up front, the crew gave me the adjustments I
needed and this car will get nothing but better as the season goes on”
commented Gibbons. “It was great to see so much support from Canadian Tire
at the track and the fans got to see an exciting show.”
The win went to Don Thompson Jr., followed by Mark Dilley, and third Peter Gibbons.
The next event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Teams will be Father’s
Day weekend June 16, 17th at the Mosport International Road Course.
Gibbons Motorsports is proud to be sponsored by Canadian Tire for the 11th
year, along with returning sponsors Monroe Brakes, Mastercraft, HITACHI &
Marks Work Wearhouse. We welcome Baja Motorsports and Troybilt to the team
for 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
