MOPAR 300 AT BARRIE SPEEDWAY ACTION PACKED
Gibbons starts 14th, leads, but finishes 14th

Stouffville, ON-(July 2, 2007) – The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series hit the

tight 1/3 mile Barrie Speedway for 300 laps of close racing and some bumping

and banging.

Peter Gibbons started 14th in the Mopar 300 and was in the top three by halfway.

On lap 157 he was the leader of the race, but surrendered the lead on lap 171 to

make his second pit stop for tires, fuel and chassis adjustments. He returned to

the race track in 14th position. Although he managed to stay out of trouble in

the first part of the race the second half was not as kind to him. On lap 215

while running in 7th he was involved in a crash and sustained a broken brake

bracket forcing him to pit, and losing two laps while the Monroe Brakes/

Mastercraft pit crew repaired the car so Gibbons could continue.

Gibbons pulled back on to the track in 17th position and was able to get one lap

back and move up a couple of positions to finish in 14th, putting him 3rd in the

NCATS Championship points hunt.

“We are happy to finish this one with the car in one piece, I am sure it was

exciting for the fans, but from my seat it was a battle.” Remarked Gibbons. “I

was really trying to keep the Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft car out of trouble, which

was a big challenge. My guys in the pits diagnosed the problem fast and were

quick to get me back out there, only 2 laps down.”

Race Summary:

The win went to # 17 DJ Kennington, second place to # 9 Mark Dilley, and third

to the #4 Chevy driver Don Thompson Jr.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series has one weekend off before visiting the west

coast, for their 4th event at the SunValley Speedway, in Vernon, BC, July 14 &

15th.
