Montreal, Quebec-(August 4, 2007) – Peter Gibbons drove from his 16th
qualifying position to finish in 7th in the 23 lap event held at the Circuit Gilles
Villeneuve, Saturday morning.
The Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft Chevrolet driver broke an engine in the second
practice session on Friday, but the team made a quick engine change and had
Gibbons ready for the qualifying session only an hour later.
Saturday morning the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series cars took to the 2.71 mile
course for the sixth event of the season in what would be a crowd pleaser.
Gibbons moved his way up through the field, each lap finding himself closer to
the front. His car handled well and although he did not have his main power
plant under the hood he held his own and completed the race in seventh. The
Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft driver maintained his 3rd position in the point
standings, only 1 point behind second place DJ Kennington.
“I was saving the car at the beginning of the race, this is a hard one on
equipment and I wanted to make sure I was still there at the end. I think we
could have moved up a couple of more spots with more green flag laps, but
seventh is a whole lot better than we ran here last year.” Commented Gibbons.
Race Summary : The winner of the race was #02 Kerry Micks, second place
went to # 27 Andrew Ranger, and third was #88 Robin Buck.
The next event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be Saturday, August 11
at the Mosport Speedway oval track.
