Stouffville, ON-(September 9, 2007) – Peter Gibbons qualified 10th for the
10th race on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule, and was the dominate
car for most of the race. He led 140 laps of the 300 lap event, but brought the
Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft Chevy home in 4th.
Gibbons took the lead on lap 91 and held onto it for 118 laps before surrendering
the position to make a pit stop for tires and fuel. Upon his return to the track he
managed to take the lead three more times. Gibbons decided to pit another time
for tires to help him hold off his competition and to help with the handling of the
car, but the gamble didn’t pay off. As the laps wound down Gibbons worked his
way up to fourth and watched another victory slip away.
“Tonight I had the best race car I have had in years, I could pass guys anywhere
on the track, but at the end of the race the new tires didn’t help as much as I
thought they would, and we came home 4th.” Remarked Gibbons. “It would
have been great to win here tonight, after the announcement that Brad has sold
the track, he is a good buddy of mine and it would have been really neat to win
at his track after all the years of struggling to figure this place out.”
Gibbons advanced his position in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship
standings, moving up into the 3rd position behind Andrew Ranger, and race
winner D.J. Kennington.
Race Summary:
The win went to # 17 D.J. Kennington, second place to # 39 Dave Whitlock, and
third # 4 Don Thompson Jr.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series heads to Antigonish, NS for their first time on
the Riverside Speedway, Saturday, September 15th.
