Antigonish, NS-(September 16, 2007) – After rain postponed the Atlantic
Dodge Dealers 300 Saturday, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series teams prepared
to qualify and race on Sunday afternoon.
Gibbons was the last car to make his 2 qualifying laps and turned out to be the
fastest, on the 1/3 mile track. This was the first pole of the season for the
Monroe Brakes/Mastercraft team and they couldn’t have been happier with the
results.
As the green flag flew, Gibbons got comfortable on the Riverside Speedway, and
took command of the race leading most of the first 200 laps and lapping all but
2nd and 3rd place, before the caution flag came out.
Gibbons pitted for tires and fuel, and returned to the racetrack in 3rd position,
but he didn’t stay there long. He was back out front and driving away from his
competition when the panhard bar snapped, he blew a tire and spun around
ending his day. Gibbons was scored 17th after completing 228 laps in the race
and slid to 4th in the Championship points standings.
“We always seem to adapt well to new tracks, it’s just unfortunate that we
broke after dominating the race.” Said Gibbons. “Our car was running great
today, a win would have been so nice for the team, all of our sponsors and
Canadian Tire. We have one more shot next week at Kawartha, I’m looking
forward to that.”
Race Summary:
The win went to # 9 Mark Dilley, second place to # 84 J.R. Fitzpatrick, and
third # 17 D.J. Kennington.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series concludes next Sunday, September 23, 2007
at the Kawartha Speedway.
